Suction-assisted lipectomy, also known as liposuction, is a technique to remove unwanted fat deposits from specific areas of the body, such as the abdomen, buttocks, hips, thighs, knees, calves, and ankles. Additional areas are the upper arms, neck, and chin. Liposuction is not a substitute for weight loss, but a distinct method of removing localized fat deposits that do not respond to diet and exercise. During liposuction, small and inconspicuous incisions are made, which are well hidden within the natural creases and contours of the body. This procedure is performed on an out-patient basis in our fully accredited on-site private surgical suite. If you are considering liposuction, please contact our helpful staff so that we may send you a comprehensive information packet and answer any questions pertaining to the procedure. The best candidates for liposuction are individuals within a relatively normal weight range but have pockets of excess fat in particular areas. Good health and realistic expectations are also of great importance. Elastic skin will result in better contour. (Hanging skin will not reshape to your body’s new contours; this may require an additional procedure to surgically remove the excess skin.) It is also important to understand that liposuction by itself does not improve dimpled skin or cellulite. In any case, Dr. Pratt or Dr. Bednar will work with you to recommend the procedure that is right for you and which will come closest to the desired result. |
