A facelift, also known as rhytidectomy, improves the most visible signs of aging by removing excess fat, tightening underlying muscles, and redraping the skin of your face and neck. A facelift can be done alone or in conjunction with other procedures, such as a forehead lift, and eyelid surgery. As people age, the effects of gravity, loss of skin elasticity, changes in underlying fatty layers and muscle fascia layers can be seen in their faces. Deep creases form between the nose and mouth, the jaw line grows slack and jowly; folds and fat deposits appear around the neck and the skin becomes loose and lax. The procedure will be performed under general anesthesia on an out-patient basis here in our fully-accredited on-site surgical suite. If you are considering a facelift, please contact our office so that we may send you a comprehensive information packet and answer any pertinent question you may have regarding the procedure. The best candidates for a facelift is a woman or man whose face and neck have begun to sag, but whose skin still has some elasticity and whose bone structure is strong and well-defined. Most patients are in their 40’s to 60’s, but in some cases, facelifts can be performed on people in higher age brackets. In any case, Dr. Pratt and Dr. Bednar will work with you in determining which procedure is right for you and which will come closest to your desired result. The facelift usually takes several hours. For extensive procedures, the surgeons may recommend scheduling two separate surgeries.
